I first became interested in nutrition at the age of 16.  My mother was an Adelle Davis fan, and I picked up her copy of Adelle's book Let's Have Healthy Children and started reading.
Adelle Davis was a biochemist and nutritionist who at one time served as a consultant for ranchers and as a nutritionist for women who were expecting.  She noted that ranchers were much more concerned about the prenatal diets of their cattle than was the average woman.

When I finished that book I was struck with the profound understanding that...

"...We have so much more control than we know...."

I have since come to understand that "...Epigenetics begins before the womb..."

roots at a glance...

Sadly,  my mother contracted early-onset Alzheimer's disease.  She was only 49 years old when symptoms began to become evident in 1979.  This was long before Alzheimer's was a household word; before everyone knew someone who had it.  I was her caregiver, and she lived with my husband Dale and I until she died in 1986.  I determined to learn all I could to implement what I had been inspired by Adelle Davis to do - take control of my own health as far as possible and to help others do the same.

While enjoying life as a stay-at-home Mom, I began my holistic health studies with Clayton College of Natural Health, earning a bachelor's degree in Holistic Nutrition, and eventually founding and opening Wondrous Roots in 2005.

My late father was renowned compounding pharmacist E. George Roentsch, and from him I inherited a passion for research and compounding medicines, but in my case, from natural botanical materials.  Throughout my education I studied herbalism and was eager to put my learning into practice.

Looking Back at a Life Lived with Intensity - by Paul Miller, Keene Sentinel - 2011

Now it's 2024, and here I am, and here we are.   I continue to learn every single day as I work with so many wonderful people facing sometimes seemingly insurmountable health challenges, and I am grateful for every single opportunity to be of whatever help I can possibly be.  Every morning as I delve into the day and the work before me, I consider myself blessed and am ever grateful to God!

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and let ALL that is within me bless His holy name!"
Absolutely everything I am and do - my passion for living, my personal life, my professional life -  is the God of the Bible:  My Wondrous Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ His magnificent Son and my Savior, and the minute-by-minute comforting, guiding, ever-powerful Holy Spirit.

Thanks to my mother's influence when I was just a wee thing, I have studied the Bible intensively throughout my life, beginning with reading on my own in earnest when I was 7 or 8 years old and including a year of intenstive study at Word of Life Bible Institute in 1980-81.

I continue to study the Word of God every single day.  I am not discouraged by the state of the world, disease, suffering, wars, and calamaties.

I believe, like Esther, God has put me here for "such a time as this," and I will do whatever I humbly can to serve Him in His care and compassion for the people He brings my way.
