A couple of weeks ago a client asked my opinion on a commercial eyelid cleanser recommended by his doctor for his condition of blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids). He had taken a photo of the ingredient label, and as I reviewed it, I told him it looked a little “chemical” to me. I then started looking for what was being done in the world of natural products for eyelid cleansing.
I ended up finding a number of products using hypochlorous acid.
I had never heard of hypochlorous acid, so I continued doing some snooping. What I found surprised me, and I was very intrigued.
In short, what I came to understand is that:
hypochlorous acid is the “bleach” the body makes in the white blood cells that fight bacteria, viruses, and fungi
Hypochlorous acid has long been used as a sanitizer in medical settings
Hypochlorous acid is the newest star when it comes to skincare products because of its positive effects on conditions such as eczema, acne, rosacea, folliculitis, Candida skin rash, wound healing, eyelid care, bites, stings, sunburn, and more
Hypochlorous acid is perfect for sensitive skin; even though the idea of “bleach” is a bit off-putting, and the word “acid” might not help, hypochlorous acid is not at all aggravating – just the opposite – it is smoothing and soothing
My first thought was, “This would be great to add to our Wondrous Facial Serum or Essential Immune Skin/Sensitive Immune Skin products. But then I read that it is best used separately and then followed by other skincare products. When mixed with antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, for example, hypochlorous acid can negate them.
So, how to use?
FOR YOUR SKIN:
1. Cleanse your skin using a gentle cleanser, such as Wondrous Face Wash
2. Apply Wondrous Healthy Skin Spray to your skin, ensuring complete coverage
3. Gently massage the product into your skin using upward circular motions
4. Allow the product to absorb into your skin before proceeding with the rest of your skincare routine
5. If you want to use a serum or toner, do this after using the Healthy Skin Spray
6. Follow up with a moisturizer, such as Wondrous Skin cream or lotion, to lock in the benefits and keep your skin hydrated.
EYELID CARE: Wonderful as an eyelid cleanser/healer, makeup remover, and for stye prevention. Do not get into your eyes, however, as it may sting. Spritz, rub in gently, rinse or wipe off with clean cloth/gauze.
WOUND CARE: Spray on sunburn, bites, stings, wounds, etc.
HANDSANITIZER: Spritz & rub!
I am using it myself, not for any particular skin condition but as a nice addition to my skincare routine. I start with Wondrous Face Wash, spritz with the new Wondrous Healthy Skin Spray, rub in, let it dry, and top with either Wondrous Skin, Wondrous Skin PM, or Wondrous Skin the Lotion.
